About Marc Potts|
Marc Potts is a fantasy artist and occasional author, whose visionary art has received wide acclaim through the exposure of his work on book and magazine covers. His work is an attempt to merge the natural and the supernatural, often with a nod towards the macabre and the bizarre.
” I was born in London in 1963 and I am a self-taught artist, so that means I am always learning and re-learning.
“Folklore and mythology play a large part in both my artwork and my writing, whether I’m writing and illustrating my own inventions for the sheer hell of it and the pure joy of creating, or whether I’m working to a brief for a commissioned piece of work. I am an avid devourer of all things folkloric, tales from all over the world, and I am always reading, scribbling notes in books or doodling as the inspiration takes hold.”
“I usually have a few paintings, and maybe a couple of stories, on the go at any one time. Occasionally the inspiration for a new picture is so fierce and consuming, that I’ll temporarily drop everything else just to get it down, start to finish.”
More recently I have started to create digital art, and my subject matter and style has varied and expanded with this. I still combine fantasy and the slightly macabre, and always come back to an element of myth, legend and the folkloric. My art strays from the from the natural world to the un-natural, and even occasionally dipping into the dark urban and alien.
